Us at ISB are restarting up our series covering different clubs! On our club showcase, we give you information about any random club in the NISA Pyramid, to try and educate people on our open system in the US. This time, the club we've chosen to be on our Club Showcase this week is none other than NISA Pro side, Stumptown AC.
Originally founded as Stumptown Athletic, the first ever movement of the organization was in 2017. Charlotte NISA was founded as a founding member, with the name coming soon. In July of 2019 the club revealed themselves as "Stumptown Athletic," paying tribute to their city of Matthews North Carolina, and their former name as Stumptown. The club made a roster, and hired Mark Steffens, a Charlotte soccer head coach.
The club played 1 season, Fall 2019, and finished as runner ups in the league. However, the club ended up only playing two games in their next season. NISA suspended the league during Spring of 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. During Fall of 2020, the club went on a hiatus.
Almost half a year later, the club ended up eventually dissolving. The league announced a reform of the team, and Stumptown Athletic then went by the name "Stumptown AC," a new logo and name. The league would also hire a new front office. Soccer Coach Rod Underwood was hired as the team's coach, and soccer executive Fred Matthes was announced as the club's president.
After their first season back in Spring of 2021, the club was back and better than ever. With a very short time to build their roster, they went into the season and did pretty well. They finished in 3rd place out of 9 teams, and in the offseason, would go to build the team even better. With the growing fan support they have right now, and the opportunity for the club to find an owner, this club is going to be a great one for NISA.
